The Weber Smokey Mountain Bullet is the first barbecue smoker I ever bought and the one I still use most often. There are trendy and more expensive smokers out there, but you really can’t beat a Weber Bullet.

This model is the original Weber smoker, and it works great for my family. If you cook larger amounts of meat, then there’s also a 22.5 inch Weber Bullet that has a thermometer and a spring load on the door latch. It is more expensive than this smaller model.

What’s the Difference Between a Grill and BBQ Smoker?

Grills are designed for high heat outdoor cooking while smokers are for low and slow smoking. You’d do steak and burgers on a grill while a barbecue smoker is perfect for pork shoulders, chicken, and holiday hams.

Sounds Like a Lot of Work

I did hesitate about getting a smoker, because I knew the cooking times ran long. Ribs run about 5 hours while a large shoulder could run up to 12 hours on the smoker.

With a cheap barbecue smoker, you could run yourself ragged refueling and checking the temperature, but the Weber smoker is very low maintenance. Get the fire going, set the vents, and you can basically let the Bullet do the work.

Of course, you check the fuel and the water pan every so often. Plus, it can be fun to sit around outside with the smoker and drink a few beers or gab. But, you really do not have to sit and watch a Weber.

Trust me. It's worth the effort to smoke meats (and other foods). While you do have to start early, the meat is so tender and has that fabulous smoked flavor. I get hungry just thinking about it.

How Do I Learn to Use a Smoker

Every smoker is different, and one of my favorite things about owning a Weber Bullet is that I can online to the Virtual Bullet page and check for very specific recipes and directions. The VB is a fan page, but it’s rock solid and packed with information that will have you smoking like a pro from the first time.
